 On-line Moisture Measurement

Compare the Technology of MoistScan®  Process Moisture Meters

Moistscan Advantages
  • The MoistScan®  employs the most recent microwave technology available. Many of it’s microwave components have been specially designed by US firms. The MoistScan®  employs both phase shift and attenuation of the microwave signal for the determination of moisture using a patented method.
  • The MoistScan® Moisture Analyser design has an extended dynamic range, enabling it to analyse much deeper bed depths than the majority of it’s competitors.
  • The MoistScan® patented technique requires NO use of radioactive sources and eliminates subsequent licensing issues.
  • The MoistScan® Moisture Analyser employs a simple compact design utilising industry standard components.
  • Typical delivery is only around 4 weeks
  • The MoistScan® is very cost competitive
  • The MoistScan® has a simple set-up procedure. Only six parameters are required to be determined and the analyser, in some cases, comes pre-calibrated.
  • The MoistScan® is very simple to install, being lightweight and using low profile antenna.

The microwave transmission technique is well established and is suited to a wide range of non conducting materials and is said to offer significant advantages compared to other techniques and are summarised in the comparison table below.

MoistScan Moisture Meter Measurement advantages Vs near Infrared Technology

Potential Limitation MOISTSCAN ® Near Infrared
Vertical segregation Unaffected - beam penetrates full bed of material Reflectance technique from surface molecules only.
Sample presentation Unaffected by position of material Distance of material surface to receiver important
Colour Unaffected Significant effect
Ambient lighting Unaffected Requires shielding
Wear No moving parts Mechanical filter system
Presence of steam Unaffected Can cause interference
Dirty Atmosphere IP65 enclosures Window requires to be kept clean

MoistScan Moisture Sensor Analysis advantages Vs Capacitance

Potential Limitation MOISTSCAN ® Capacitance
Vertical segregation Unaffected - beam penetrates full bed of material Very limited material penetration, possible vertical segregation effects
Sample presentation Unaffected by position of material requires control of distance of conveyor belt to system
Conductivity of Material Wide range of materials amenable to technique Limited range of applications
Steel cored reinforced conveyor belts Can be used Cannot be used
